ALiVE Immersive Learning Program: results from pilot cycles in Italy

14 October 2024

We are at the final stages of the “ALiVE: A Learning Community in the Metaverse” project, the Partnership for Cooperation co-financed by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union that we are implementing together with GTN Solutions, the Shannon University of Technology: Midlands Midwest, CSI Center for Social Innovation, Altera Vita and Femxa to promote digital literacy and Media and Information Literacy (MIL) of adults over the age of 45.

Together with our partners, we have developed an immersive learning program consisting of six e-learning modules and six learning stations in a virtual space that address key aspects of digital, media and information literacy:

  • Understanding the media, reflection and critical thinking

  • The new challenges in media and information consumption

  • Digital literacy: mastery of digital tools and information storage

  • Creation of digital content

  • Protection and security on the internet

  • Digital citizenship.

The program was tested with adults over 45 in Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Spain to evaluate its effectiveness. For Italy, the program was tested by 14 senior students, who were invited to complete at least one of the program modules and provide feedback and suggestions through evaluation survey.

The evaluation aimed to evaluate both the user experience and the effectiveness of the program in improving participants' digital literacy and MIL competence.

Main results:

  • 78% of participants stated that the e-learning platform is easy to use, thus facilitating obstacle-free learning even for those less familiar with digital tools.

  • Almost 79% of those interviewed confirmed the usefulness of the platform for improving their digital and media literacy skills, while the remaining 21% declared themselves neutral.

  • The program's virtual environment also received positive feedback, with 71% of participants rating the immersive world's design as engaging and well-crafted.
